Unit 3: Topic 2 - Responding to Local Land Cover Transformations OR
Unit 2: Topic 1 - Responding to Challenges Facing a Place in Australia
Assessment: Investigation – Field Report
Students will investigate the impacts of urbanisation on koala populations in the rapidly expanding Northern Gold Coast. Students will use a range of geographical skills to collect forest data using methodology used by ecologists in the field. Students will analyse spatial and forest data to propose action for sustainable management considering different stakeholders views, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives.
Fieldwork booklet and equipment will be provided by Jacobs Well EEC.
Optional: Overnight camp including data analysis, spotlighting, data collection by canoe. We can tailor a camp program to specifically meet your needs.
Pre-requisites: Resources will be provided for students to study at school prior to the excursion to develop their knowledge of changing land use in the Northern Gold Coast area and to develop their inquiry questions.
Requirements: Students will need to be dressed in long trousers, long-sleeved shirts and runners or walking boots. Hats must be worn.
