Description

  • Senior Biology - Ecology:
    • Understanding Biology
    • Investigating Biology
    • Evaluating Biological Issues

Students examine a freshwater ecosystem collecting abiotic and biotic data. They use nets to collect organisms in a local fresh water pond. These are sorted, identified and detailed observations of adaptations are made.

Students discuss the inter-relationships between the organisms in this complex food web. Applying a system based on the SIGNAL index which uses the diversity and presence of organisms as biological indicators, students determine water quality and  consider the effects of human impacts upon sustainability.
