Year 5 Australian Curriculum (Science)
Complements C2C Unit: Survival in the Australian Environment
Students explore the use of field sampling techniques, field observations, photography, nest boxes and trapping for data collection in science.
Students prepare bait, set traps and monitor them overnight. They note the species and condition of each specimen before returning it to the wild. They also make first hand observations of the structural, behavioural and functional adaptations of the animals they catch.
SIS: Questioning and predicting: With guidance, pose questions to clarify practical problems or inform a scientific investigation, and predict what the findings of an investigation might be (ACSIS231)
Planning & Conducting : With guidance, plan appropriate investigation methods to answer questions or solve problems (ACSIS086)
Processing and analysing data (ACSIS090); (ASSIS218);
Communicating (ACSIS093)"
SU: Living things have structural features and adaptations that help
them to survive in their environment (ACSSU043)
SHE: Science involves testing predictions by gathering data and using evidence to develop explanations of events and phenomena (ACSHE081)
Science knowledge is used to inform personal decisions (ACSHE217)
