Students use their senses to explore differences in living things and how different living things have different needs.

Students closely investigate three reptiles. They will identify the external features of these organisms and make links to the environments where they are found.

Students closely investigate three living things - A freshwater turtle, carpet python and blue tongue lizard. They examine how these creatures are dependent on their natural environment for survival.

Complements C2C Unit: Survival in the Australian Environment

Students interact with the centre's reptile collection. Students are asked to identify various structural features and predict their function. Students compare and contrast reptilian adaptations with those serving similar functions in other life forms (e.g. the snake has no external ear openings yet the bones inside the skull function in a similar way to bones in a human's ear. Scales covering a reptile's skin are made of a similar substance , keratin, to hair in mammals ).

Students interact with the centres reptile collection. This is s sensory experience in which students use their senes to help them respond to questions about reptile body shape, behaviour and bodily functions. They learn how reptiles respond to the physical conditions of their environments and how the elements above contribute towards their survival.
