Program summary

Environmental focus: Students will get personal with some of our friendly reptiles – a blue tongue lizard, a turtle and a carpet python called ‘Agro’. Through sensory experience, students examine the differences between these living things and how their needs differ.

Environmental focus: Living/non-living, responding to environmental conditions, adaptations, biological classification, habitat, conservation, interdependence
Years: 4–6
Time: Half day (or shorter version minimum of 1 hour)
Maximum number: 2 class groups

Description

Students closely investigate three of the centre’s resident reptiles:

  • a freshwater turtle
  • a carpet python and
  • a blue tongue lizard.

They examine how these creatures respond to the physical conditions of their surroundings and the adaptations they possess for survival.

Each year level has a slightly different focus consistent with the Australian Curriculum.
