Year 5 Australian Curriculum (Science)
Complements C2C Unit: Survival in the Australian Environment
Students observe and discuss the structural adaptations of various mangrove species and relate them to the marine environment in which they live. They observe a range of other plants and animals living in the mangroves and consider how each possesses a number of adaptations that assist them to survive in their specific environmental niche. Students discuss how each species deals with high concentrations of salt in their environment. Adaptations are described in terms of ..."structural", "behavioural" and "functional".
SU: Living things have structural features and adaptations that help
them to survive in their environment (ACSSU043)
SHE: Science involves testing predictions by gathering data and using evidence to develop explanations of events and phenomena (ACSHE081)
Important contributions to the advancement of science have been made by people from a range of cultures (ACSHE082)
