Description

Students are divided into groups. Each group is allocated a canoe and all are given instruction on how to paddle, steer and safely operate their craft. After a safety briefing, students follow their guide down the Pimpama river, observing bird life, mangrove ecosystems and aquatic life. Students use the knowledge gained in previous activities to suggest where each organism may be positioned in the food chain - starting with the mangroves as the main producer organism and culminating in the white bellied sea-eagle as the apex predator.

Each year level has a slightly different focus consistent with the Australian Curriculum.
