Description
Students closely investigate three of the centre’s resident reptiles:
- a freshwater turtle
- a carpet python and
- a blue tongue lizard.
They examine how these creatures respond to the physical conditions of their surroundings and the adaptations they possess for survival.
Each year level has a slightly different focus consistent with the Australian Curriculum.
Year 7 Australian Curriculum (Science)
Complements C2C Units: Organising & Affecting Organisms
Students identify the characteristics that place snakes, lizards and turtles into the same class—reptiles.
Students classify each reptile as a carnivore, herbivore or omnivore and are given to opportunity to closely observe the adaptations that equip them for a predatory life/life as a herbivore/omnivore.
SU: There are differences within and between groups of organisms; Classification helps organise this diversity (ACSSU111).
SIS: Construct and use a range of representations including graphs, keys and models to represent patterns or relationships including using digital technologies as appropriate. (ACSIS129); Evaluating (ASSIS130); Communicating (ACSIS110).
